After four generations of winemakers and know-how, "Champagne Remy Massin et fils" comes from grapes harvested in a vineyard that spans 20 hectares located on the sunny slopes of our small village in the" Côte des Bar: VILLE SUR ARCE".
Natural laws governing the dominant local champagne. The nature of the basement is based on geological dating from the Jurassic period (period of the Mesozoic era prior to the Cretaceous), which guided the selection of grape varieties.
Three varieties are remarkably adapted it: the Black Pinot, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. Côte des Bar, which has about 7000 ha, is mainly composed of marl, which are calcareous clay large nutrient reserves. Pinot Black, noble grape represents 80% of the blend.
A hillside vineyard with the typical image is that of wooded heights overlooking the curves of land planted with vines, with a (charming) villages nestled in the heart of the valleys. These mainly south facing slopes, south-east and east, benefit optimally from solar energy.
This is the oceanic influence that disrupts the continental climate of Champagne. Because of its northerly position, the average annual temperature does not exceed 10 degrees and sunshine hours are less numerous than in the rest of French vineyards. It is this feature that is causing a specific qualities of Champagne: finesse due to a slow ripening of the grapes.
